December 2015 Storytime Review

What with the holidays and everything storytime attendance was down but I still read some fun stories and had some cute crafts for the kids to do.

December 3rd

  • Theme: Snowmen
  • Craft: Puffy paint snowmen
  • Books
    • The Itsy Bitsy Snowman by Jeffrey Burton (5 out of 5 stars)
      • This was a cute little rhyming book perfect for babies and toddlers. The illustrations are the most adorable thing ever and the rhyme is so cute. I really wanted to keep this library book.
    • Snowman Magic by Katherine Tegan (2 out of 5 stars)
      • I thought it was cute but it didn’t really keep the attention of the kids at storytime which was odd since it was similar to…
    • Snowmen at Work by Carolyn Buehner (4 out of 5 stars)
      • I liked this story. It was cute and funny and the kids really get a kick out of what the snowmen were doing in the story.

December 10th

  • Theme: Penguins
  • Craft: Foam penguin ornaments from Oriental Trading
  • Books
    • A Mountain of Friends by Kerstin Schoene (4 out of 5 stars)
      • I liked this story. It was fun and had a good message but the whole weird page flip thing was hard to manage since I was holding it away from me for storytime.
    • A Penguin Story by Antoinette Portis (2 out of 5 stars)
      • Not memorable.
    • Baby Penguins Everywhere by Melissa Guion (4 out of 5 stars)
      • Super cute and the kids thought it was funny every time more penguins appeared.
    • Penguins, Penguins, Everywhere (2 out of 3 stars)
      • I was hoping that a more non-fictiony book would make for a nice learning experience but it was blah.
    • Chaucer’s First Winter by Stephen Krenksy (3 out of 5 stars)
      • I liked it but the kids weren’t too into it.

December 17th

  • Theme: Holiday
  • Craft: Reindeer ornaments
  • Books
    • Elmo’s Little Dreidel by Naomi Kleinberg (3 out of 5 stars)
      • This was a short little informative book that helped me make a more inclusive storytime.
    • Charlie and the Christmas Kitty by Ree Drummond (4 out of 5 stars)
      • I really like the Charlie books. They’re cute and funny.
